Year-old shop is one of several Mount Horeb business honorees.“There’s something magical happening here.”
MOUNT HOREB, Wis. [Feb. 22, 2018] – When McFee on Main celebrated its first anniversary last October, Owner Lynn McFee was proud of the shop’s first year, she said, but never expected that just a few months later, she’d be bringing home a Madison Magazine Best of Madison Bronze award for best women’s clothing.
“When [Best of Madison] voting started we were less than a year old,” McFee said. “I was completely shocked by it.”
And McFee on Main is in good company; Duluth Trading Co., also located in Mount Horeb, won the Best of Madison Gold award for men’s clothing this year.
“It really exemplifies what a hidden treasure Mount Horeb is. There is something magical happening here,” she said. “People seek us out because the energy here is contagious.”
McFee opened McFee on Main on Mount Horeb’s Main Street after retiring from her role as senior director brand manager at global fashion brand, Ralph Lauren. After more than 30 years with the company, she was ready to pursue a dream. She launched a business in her husband’s native Mount Horeb.
“I love Mount Horeb,” she said. “Opening our store has really been a great experience; the community has been very welcoming and supportive.”
Featuring a variety of women’s clothing, gifts and home décor, McFee on Main is located at the east end of Mount Horeb’s bustling downtown at 400 E.
Main Street. McFee and her husband, John, purchased the building in the spring of 2015, and transformed what was formerly a cafe into a bright and welcoming retail space.
To celebrate the award, McFee is hosting a ‘Bronze Bash’ for customers from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, and from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10. Visitors will enjoy light snacks and beverages, Bronze Bash specials and each day, the first 50 customers with a $50 purchase will receive a special gift. Those who register in-store during the Bronze Bash will also have a chance to win both a $50 gift card and a $100 gift card.
Is McFee at all disappointed that her award is bronze, not gold? “Not at all,” she laughed. “Now I have something to work toward.”
